Step 1: Determine square footage of the area (length x width)

 

     Example: 10-ft long by 20-ft wide = 200 sq. ft.

Step 2:  Determine the desired depth of the material in inches

​

     Example: 3 inch material depth

​

Step 3:  Convert depth in inches to decimal by dividing by 12

​

     Example: 3 divided by 12 = 0.25

​

Step 4: Multiply square footage by depth (decimal form)

​

     Example: 200 x 0.25 = 50

​

Step 5: Divide the value from Step 4 by 27, this is the amount of

material you need in cubic yards

​

     Example: 50 divided by 27 = 1.85 cubic yards of material

​
